Search Tips

  • Check your spelling

Make sure your search terms are spelled correctly, or, if you`re not sure about the correct way to spell a word, try power search, which can attempt to find words that sound similar to your search terms. Correctly speld words however will always produce better results

  • Be specific

If you need to search for anything like security and Windows NT, don`t just type 'security', but 'security Windows NT', or use power search. On the other hand, if you get to few, or no results, you could try to be less specific, and/or use synonyms (similar words like 'safe safity secure security')

  • Use similar words

The more similar words like 'safe safity secure security' you use in a search, the more results you will get back

  • Word-completion

This search engine uses word-completion. That means that if you search for 'hack', all pages are found containing 'hack', 'hacker', 'hackers' and 'hacking'. Searching for 'hackers' will find 'hackers' and 'hackers-scene'

    Search Options Explained

  • Search for ANY of these words

will find all pages that contain ANY of your search terms. For example, you may want to find all pages that contain either hacking or security

  • Search for ALL of these words

will find only these pages that contain ALL of your search terms. For example, you may want to find only these pages that contain both hacking and security

  • Search for the EXACT PHRASE

will only find these pages that that contain words in the exact order you specify. For example, you may want to find only that page that contains the exact phrase "Microsoft installs US Spy Agency with Windows"

  • Search BOOLEAN

will give you total control over your search and is the most powerful option, once you understand how it works. Anthing between quotation marks ("") is is threated as a phrase. Anything with a plus-sign (+) before it should occure in the search results (same as 'ALL of the words'). Anything with a minus-sign (-) before it must be absent in the results. You can also use the * character. The * goes for anything. For example searching for wh* will find the words what, why, when, whether, and any other word that starts with wh. Searching for *her* will find the words here, whether, together, gathering, and any other word that contains 'her' anywhere in the word. All these options may be combined together in a single search:

will find all pages which have a word that starts with 'hac' and which does not contain the word 'warez'

will find all pages with the exact phrase which has a word that starts with 'hac' which does not contain the word 'warez'

will find all pages with the exact phrase which has a word that starts with 'hac', which does not contain the word 'warez', and which not contains the exact phrase 'frequently asked questions'

  • Show exact matches only, or allow some spelling-errors

with 'exact maches only' no spelling-errors are allowed, and with 'allow some spelling-errors' you may type 'hak' and still any pages containing 'hack' are found, or type 'haelth', and 'health' is still found
