FixReg.zip 51.2 kilobytes

The problem described here (and that is fixed by FixReg) affects all versions of Windows 95, and all beta versions (including version 4.10.1650 Beta 3) of Windows 98. What is worst is that Microsoft actually recommends using the 'RegEdit /e /c trick' to compact a bloated registry; see their Knowledge Base article Q131431, a copy of which is included in the FixReg.zip package. Note that the problem does not affect Windows 98 Release Candidate 0 (RC-0, build 4.10.0.1691), but Microsoft has fixed the problem in this version of Windows 98 in such a way that an exported registry in Windows 98 RC-0 (and so presumably also in the release version of Windows 98) has a format that differs slightly from exported registries in Windows 95. In other words: They fixed the problem at the cost of compatibility, which, as the authors FixReg program proves, was not necessary since they could have fixed it without sacrificing compatibility

REGCLEAN.EXE 781 kilobytes

Windows 95. Microsoft RegClean version 4.1a, build 7364.1 analyzes Windows Registry keys stored in the Windows registry. It finds keys that contain erroneous values, and after recording those entries in the Undo.reg file, it removes them from the Windows Registry. This is the most recent version, also available as RegClean41a.exe, which is the executable file only. REGCLEAN.EXE (the file offered for download here) contains a Readme.txt and a file to solve a problem with a DLL maybe missing on your PC. It`s a self-extracting zip-archive

regeditx.zip 291 kilobytes

Windows 95 - 98 - 2000 Beta - NT4. Year 2000 compliant. The Registry Editor Extensions version 1.2 'extends' the Registry Editor included with Windows 95 - 98 - 2000 Beta - NT 4.0. A combo box is inserted into the Registry Editor which remembers the keys you have edited, and allows you to navigate back to them quickly. (Can be very useful, depending on where you use the Registry Editor for). Some of the changes: Fixed "hang" on startup by saving the combo box keys to file \RegEditX.sav instead of the registry. All new Setup program complete with Uninstall. Enhanced appearance - the combo box uses the same font as the rest of the Registry Editor. Completely revamped Remove Keys from Combobox dialog. Quick drop-down combo box. Faster startup by reading keys from a file instead of the registry and removing unnecessary screen redraws. New WebUpdate feature keeps you informed of RegEditX updates and other news. Updated Help file, please read
