CabPack is a program that makes it easy to create .CAB files. The powerful CAB compression engine by Microsoft, found in their CAB-SDK, enables you to achieve an even higher compression than RAR, with the new LZX compression scheme. Problem is that it is normaly difficult to create CABs with Microsoft's MakeCAB, and CabArc, which is distributed along with MakeCAB, cannot do multi-volume CABs. So the author decided to write this little program. It must be run in a DOS box under Windows 95, and will prompt for the information necessary to create .CAB files (source, destination dir, compression method etc.). CabPack is now 32bit and has a graphical user interface. Depending on the platform you wish to extract the cabinets on, it can create .CAB files that contain long filenames or store these long filenames in the 8.3 format. English and German version included

An application designed to convert SFX CAB files (files that you can download from the Microsoft web or FTP sites) to standard CAB files that can be viewed with the EXTRACT utility included with Windows 95 or the Cab File Viewer Powertoy, included with the Freeware package called MS PowerToys. The problem with the self-extracting/self-installing files like MS IE 3.0 is that once you start the file, it will do everything automatically, without giving the user a chance to, for example, scan the contents for viruses or just look and see what kind of files are included inside. This utility will strip the starting code that extracts the files, leaving you with normal cab file

ZipScan v1.2 is a program that searches multiple Zip archive files for files within them whose names match a given specification. Finding a particular file from amongst this collection is difficult as the Windows file finder does not look into Zips and WinZip does not currently include a search option. There is no need for installation: just run the program from anywhere on your hard drive. You can specify one or more search patterns by checking or unchecking the boxes next to the editable fields. These patterns use the standard wildcard characters (* and ?) to search for matching filenames. For example, "*.txt" would find all files that end in .txt; "tr?ck.txt" would find track.txt, trick.txt, tr7ck.txt etc. In addition, by selecting the appropriate check box, you can employ two additional wildcard characters, $ and #. $ will match any letter character and # will match any single digit. So, "tr$ck" would match track and trick but not tr7ck. "tr#ck" would match tr7ck but not track, trick or tr567ck. If the check box is not selected, these symbols act as normal characters and must match a $ or # in the filename, new futures include: extract files from archives, limit search based on file size, text entry of the search directory, search JAR (Java Archive) files, CAB (Windows cabinet files) files, errors are logged to a file instead of being reported immediately (so the search process is not interrupted)
